Ballots are being cast in the presidential primary, Mayors of Natchitoches, Powhatan and Clarence, Natchitoches Council Districts 3 and 4 and councilperson at large and Democratic State Central Committee, Democratic Parish Executive Committee and Republican Parish Eecutive Committee.
Election day is Saturday, July 11. Polls will open at 7 a.m. and close at 8 p.m. This is a closed party election for Presidential Preference Primary and committee members. There will be lockouts to separate the election by party. Democrats will only be able to vote for the Democratic candidates and Republicans will only be allowed to vote for Republican candidates.
Some voters will not be eligible to vote if not a registered Republican or Democrat and if there are no other items on the ballot. Voting precincts will have a different look as well. Voters will be asked to wear a face mask.
Clerk of Court David Stamey said, “Our Election commissioners will be working to keep the public and the other commissioners safe this Saturday at the polling places. They will be wiping down the machines between voters, wearing masks or face shields and gloves and assisting with social distancing. Hand sanitizer will be available. For everyone’s safety, we ask the voters to consider wearing a mask while inside the polling place.”
Registrar of Voters Kathrin Holden said early voting was steady during the extended dates that ended at 6 p.m. July 4.
There were 2,301 total votes recorded.
