The Natchitoches Police Department is investigating a scam July 23 at Motel 6.

Natchitoches Wood

On July 22, around 5:34 a.m., Natchitoches Police officers were dispatched to Motel 6 at 7624 Highway 3110 in reference to a burglary. They were unable to locate the front desk clerk and noticed that the office door had been forced open.  Officers began to search for the missing clerk and were told she was last seen around 5:02 a.m. retrieving the keys for the motel’s vehicle.

After searching the area, officers located the clerk in the Wal-Mart parking.  The clerk told officers and detectives she was contacted by an individual at the corporate office of Motel 6.  The individual from the corporate office told the desk clerk to retrieve the money from the motel’s locked office and deposit it into her banking account.  The desk clerk was then instructed to wire the money at Wal-Mart into an unknown account outside of the United States. The officers made contact with the clerk before the money was sent.

Below are a few ways you can avoid becoming a victim of a scam:

  • Always be suspicious of unsolicited phone calls or phone numbers you do not recognize.
  • Never give money or personal information to someone that you do not know.
  • Always trust your instincts. If it sounds to good to be true it more than likely is a scam.

Anyone with additional information in regards to this investigation should contact the Natchitoches Police Department at (318) 352-8101 or Detective William Connell at (318) 238-3911.
