There were only two items on the City Council requiring action at the meeting Monday. The meeting lasted less than 30 minutes.

The council introduced an ordinance to accept the bid of $782,400 from ASB Utility Construction for renovation of the water treatment backwash effluent transfer system.

The other bids were from Dixie Overland Construction, $742,860; Womack and Sons, $753,175; David Lawler, $793,000; and Pulley Construction, $835,196. The vote will be taken at the next meeting.

The council passed a resolution authorizing the mayor to accept bids for caustic soda for the water treatment plant.

Before the meeting, Clerk of Court David Stamey gave the oath of office to councilmen Eddie Harrington and Dale Nielsen.

Councilman Lawrence Batiste said he was proud to have served on the council and thanked the other members with whom he served. ‘I have met some tremendous people,” he said. “I’ve had a ball.” The next meeting will be Aug. 10.
