Dr. Scoggins spent his life in service of others.  He was a high school educator in Vernon Parish and also served as an assistant and associate county agent in both Natchitoches and Tensas Parishes.  Later, he became the county agent for Caddo, Natchitoches and Sabine Parish.  He also served as district agent for LSU Agriculture Extension Program for the Cenla Region until his retirement from LSU in 1988.  He was a well-respected Agricultural Specialist for LSU.  This allowed him to travel to Uganda to perform a feasibility study on the development of an agricultural teaching program for that area.

After his retirement from LSU, he served as the Executive Director of the Red River Developmental Council for Economic Development and was Executive Director and Chairman of the Appropriation Committee for the El Camino Reál/East West Corridor project.

He was a graduate of Anacoco High School and was an FFA Star Farmer.  After graduating, Dr. Scoggins attended and graduated LSU with a PhD in Vocational Agriculture.  While at LSU, he was an agriculture foreign exchange student in the Middle East.  He also served his country in the United States Army and the Air Force Reserves.

He was a member of First Baptist Church of Natchitoches, where he served as deacon.  He was an ordained Baptist Minister, Lion’s Club member, a former District Governor and was a faithful witness for his Lord to hundreds of 4H students, as well as to all he encountered.

He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Lynelle Dowden Scoggins; son, Keith Scoggins and wife Tommie of Kisatchie and Kim Scoggins Cunningham and husband John of Natchitoches; grandchildren, Kris Scoggins Faulks (Shane) of Tyler, Texas, Dakota Scoggins of Natchitoches, Camden and Kaleigh Scoggins of Shreveport, Hannah Cunningham Henderson (Jarred) of Metairie, John Blanchard Cunningham of Natchitoches and Christian Cunningham (fiancé Samantha) of Metairie; sisters, Wanda Louise Scoggins Bolgiano (Morris) of Midlothian, Texas, and Wanda Lou Dowden Whitman (Rev. Lloyd) of Dry Prong.  He leaves behind a plethora of friends and family that loved him dearly.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.K. Scoggins of Anacoco and sister, Doralease Scoggins Bolgiano and husband Milton of Plano, Texas.

We will miss you, Daddy.
