The Natchitoches Parish Courthouse will be closed Thursday, Aug. 27 due to the potential for severe weather associated with Hurricane Laura. The Office of Community Services, the Parish landfill, and all bin sites will also be closed. Residents are encouraged to take every precaution in protecting themselves, their families, and their property. Anyone encountering flooded roadways should turn around immediately and look for an alternate route. Downed trees, power lines and other debris making roads impassable should be reported to the Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Office at 318-352-6432.
Due to the potential threat of tropical weather, all Natchitoches Parish School Board schools and facilities will be closed beginning at noon Wednesday, August 26 and will remain closed through Friday, Aug. 28. All professional developments for teachers and technology dissemination that was scheduled to occur during these days will be rescheduled for a later date. “Due to an abundance of caution in response to the threat of Hurricane Laura, the Natchitoches Parish School system will be closing all NPSB schools and offices during this time for the safety of our employees and community,” said Superintendent Grant Eloi. NPSB will be monitoring weather updates closely throughout the week. Families can expect an update from the school board over the weekend as to the status of school for next week. Weather closure updates will be provided on the NPSB website and social media pages.
After consideration and monitoring of Hurricane Laura, Central Louisiana Technical Community College will close beginning noon, Wednesday, Aug. 26 and remain closed through Friday, Aug. 28. The college plans to reopen for regular operations on Monday, Aug. 31. CLTCC encourages everyone to remain safe and monitor weather alerts and guidance from the state and Central Louisiana authorities.
Northwestern State University will close at noon Wednesday, Aug. 26 in advance of Hurricane Laura, which is predicted to make landfall on the Texas and south Louisiana coasts late Wednesday or early Thursday and is expected to impact large portions of Louisiana and east Texas.Classes scheduled from noon Wednesday through Friday will be cancelled, and all offices on campuses in Natchitoches, Alexandria, Leesville and Shreveport will be closed during that period.“The decision to cancel classes, close offices and suspend operations except for essential personnel and services was made to help assure the safety of students, faculty and staff and others served by the university,” said NSU President Dr. Chris Maggio. “We encourage students and others to exercise extreme caution during this weather emergency, especially if they travel, and to observe safety guidelines issued by the National Weather Service and other agencies.” Beginning at 5 p.m. Wednesday, all entry gates to the Natchitoches campus will be closed until weather permits, according to University Police. Those who want to enter campus must enter through the Caspari Street entrance. Identification will be required for entry onto campus as NSU Police personnel will be manning the guard shack.
St. Mary’s Catholic School in Natchitoches has decided to close Thursday, Aug. 27 and Friday, Aug. 28 after listening to recent National Weather Service announcements.
