Natchitoches, Louisiana (Oct. 12, 2020)— KNWD-FM 91.7, Northwestern State University’s student-run radio station, held a campus event Oct. 2 celebrating World College Radio Day. The event, on NSU’s iconic brickway, raised awareness of the unique programming and services KNWD provides.
“College radio is one of the last vestiges of creative radio programming, and KNWD Radio at Northwestern State University is one such innovative and fearless broadcasting entity,” said Tifphany McClinton, the station’s general manager. “Celebrating College Radio Day on campus really helps connect the station to our community.”
To encourage students and faculty to learn about the importance of college radio, KNWD provided live music, karaoke and an informational table with station merchandise. Staff members offered stickers created by the staff’s graphic designer, Bryauna Persilver, that became an immediate hit. Observing social distancing rules, students and faculty gathered safely to connect through music.
World College Radio Day was founded in 2010 to celebrate the cultural influence of college and high school radio and to inspire greater international awareness of the work these stations accomplish by encouraging new listeners to engage with their broadcasts. This year, for World College Radio Day’s 10th anniversary, nearly 600 stations participated from 38 countries and six continents.
KNWD is committed to entertaining and informing Northwestern State’s campus and the Natchitoches community through music and news. The station amplifies local voices and talent on-air through its unique and innovative programming schedule and event planning.
