JT for the Dec. 19 edition

JT didn’t realize just how big Natchitoches had become. Reading Thursday’s paper, he learned that in addition to a city attorney…we have seven assistant city attorneys. We may have had that many in the past…JT just never paid that much attention to it because it seemed like Ronald Corkern, Tommy Murchison and the mayor did it all. Now it looks like the city may be run by attorneys.

Speaking of the city…. JT hears Mayor Ronnie Williams got rave reviews for his talk at the Natchitoches Rotary Club. One of the highlights, JT was told, is that the mayor said he was going to stress improvements to the city’s infrastructure. That means no building projects like event centers, hotels or ballparks. Kudos to the city for stressing this critical area.

JT sees where the NSU Demon Football team added eight early signees to their roster earlier this week. Four were from Texas, two were from the same high school in North Arkansas, and one each from Louisiana and Mississippi. JT recalls Coach Brad Laird stressing in the past he was targeting the 318 area code for recruits. The early signees included just one that even had a “3” in the area code. That was a youngster from Mangham. Maybe the Spring signing class will yield a few more from North Louisiana.
