Football returns to Turpin Stadium Sunday. The Louisiana High School Athletic Association will bring the State Football Championships to town for three days next week. The action actually starts Sunday with the Many Tigers facing Kinder in a 1 p.m. contest. CE Byrd of Shreveport will then take on Catholic High of Baton Rouge at 6 p.m. Three games will be on Monday starting at 11 a.m., another at 3:30 p.m. and the finale at 7:30 p.m. The lone Tuesday game is Ouachita Christian facing Calvary Baptist at 1 p.m. Natchitoches and Northwestern have already been in the spotlight leading up to the games and what a great way for our community to end 2020. If you find yourself with some spare time, try to take in one of these games….we especially need to support our friends in Many. Their number one fan, Pete Abington, will be there and he’ll know if his Natchitoches friends don’t show up.

Things really began to shut down just before Christmas and JT doesn’t see as many people out and about as usual. That’s because they have too many chores to complete for the holidays. He did hear a rumor floating around town that the subdivision planned for St. Maurice Lane (just off Williams Avenue) might be dead in the water. If you recall, the developers purchased the property they thought had already been zoned for the project, only to find out it wasn’t. After assembling a team of lawyers and losing their argument to Planning and Zoning, JT hears the developers might be trying to sell the property to those residents who own adjacent property.

JT sees where Gov. John Bel Edwards has extended his mask mandate another 21 days as well as limiting restaurant capacity to 50 percent. It’s not good news, but since we have been a “hot spot”, JT believes we need to mask up. He has noticed an increase in the number of people not wearing a mask, but it doesn’t bother him because he’s gonna wear one. JT kind of has an appreciation for the T-shirt he saw that said…When this COVID thing is over, there are still some people I don’t want to be around. And no, he’s not making a list of those not wearing a mask.
