A graveside service for Mrs. Barbara Guin Vercher, 76, of Bossier City was Tuesday, Jan. 5 at 3 p.m. at Rose Neath Cemetery, 5185 Swan Lake Road, Bossier City with Father Joseph Martina officiating. Mrs. Barbara Guin Vercher was born Aug. 21, 1944, in Campti and passed from this life Jan. 2, 2021, in Bossier City.
Barbara married Michael Vercher Sept. 28, 1963, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Cloutierville. They had two sons, Steven Vercher and Scott Vercher. They are members of St. Jude Catholic Church in Benton.
Barbara moved to Shreveport after graduating from Natchitoches High School and began her career working at the First National Bank of Shreveport before moving to the National Bank of Bossier. She worked up to become Head Teller at the Airline Drive branch. She obtained her Louisiana State licenses in both Insurance and Real Estate and worked for RR Smith Insurance Agency and the Taylor Insurance Agency.
She then moved to Alexander & Alexander Insurance Agency, working her way up to become Vice President and State Accounting Manager for the Louisiana offices in Shreveport, Alexandria and New Orleans. Throughout her career, Barbara excelled at her work. She loved a challenge and received numerous awards and commendations for her contributions. After retiring, Barbara spent much of her time with her family and loyal companion, Lucy, her poodle baby.
She loved her flowers and birds, both decorating the house with them, and building a refuge for them in the backyard. Barbara spent as much time as she could with her family, loving the holidays that brought them all together. She enjoyed every role she had as wife, mother, sister and especially grandmother and great-grandmother. She truly was a shining example of positivity, generosity and unfailing love for her family.
Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of 57 years, Michael Vercher of Bossier City; sons, Steven Vercher and wife Toni of Benton and Scott Vercher and wife Kathy of Bossier City; grandchildren, Sarah Douthit, Grace Vercher, Emma Vercher, Travis Vercher, Hannah Vercher and Michael Vercher Jr.; great-granddaughter, Catherine Douthit; brothers, Travis Guin and wife Marybeth of Campti, Gary Guin and wife Bonnie of Blanchard, Ronald Guin and wife Pam of Campti; sisters, Caroline Guin Tauzin and husband Joe of Bossier City and Shirley Guin Mustin and husband John of Campti; sister-in-law, Dorothy Guin and husband James of Ashland; brother-in-law, Bill Vercher of Arlington, Texas; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in her death by her parents, Travis Daniel and Aleene Wallace Guin of Campti; brother, Dr. James Guin of Ashland; sisters, Rubye Guin Morgan and husband Joe of Alexandria and Patsy Guin Thompson and husband Buddy of Mansfield; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Francis and Lynda Vercher of Natchitoches.
Barbara fought a courageous battle with cancer and the family would like to thank Sheri Powell, Felicia Morris, Traci Varnell, Debra Douglas, Christy Austin and the other staff of Regional Hospice. They would also like to give a special thanks to Fr. Karl Daigle.
