Barbara married Michael Vercher Sept. 28, 1963, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Cloutierville. They had two sons, Steven Vercher and Scott Vercher. They are members of St. Jude Catholic Church in Benton.

She obtained her Louisiana State licenses in both Insurance and Real Estate and worked for RR Smith Insurance Agency and the Taylor Insurance Agency.

She then moved to Alexander & Alexander Insurance Agency, working her way up to become Vice President and State Accounting Manager for the Louisiana offices in Shreveport, Alexandria and New Orleans. Throughout her career, Barbara excelled at her work. She loved a challenge and received numerous awards and commendations for her contributions. After retiring, Barbara spent much of her time with her family and loyal companion, Lucy, her poodle baby.

She loved her flowers and birds, both decorating the house with them, and building a refuge for them in the backyard. Barbara spent as much time as she could with her family, loving the holidays that brought them all together.
