Natchitoches resident Huey Taylor McPhearson passed away early Monday morning, Jan. 12, 2021, at Natchitoches Regional Medical Center. Huey was born Jan. 23, 1935, to William Taylor McPhearson and Mae Waters McPhearson.

After graduating from Marthaville High School, Huey went on to earn a Bachelor of Science Degree from the Southwestern Louisiana Institute of Liberal and Technical Learning, which entitled him to be a Ragin’ Cajun.

He worked for the U. S. Department of Agriculture for 25 years. Upon his retirement, he opened and operated Polyshield Spray-on Bedliners of Natchitoches for 20 years.

Over the past 41 years, Huey was tireless in his efforts to help alcoholics discover sobriety. He would travel all over America meeting people and sharing his experience, strength and hope with the wish that he would help another alcoholic stay sober. He truly lived the program and never tired of helping others find hope. Huey’s legacy will live on as countless people are sober today because of his efforts, and they are passing on their gift of recovery to others.

He was an avid sports fan who enjoyed watching basketball, football, baseball, softball, volleyball, soccer and golf. His favorite teams were the Chicago Cubs and the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns.
