With District starting soon, the Lakeview Lady Gators had one more bout ahead when they faced off against Jonesboro Friday, Jan. 15. With Lakeview ranked fifth and the Lady Tigers of Jonesboro sixth, this was definitely one of the biggest games, so far, this year.
It started off with Zenobia Poydras backing down her defender on the first possession and getting her signature post shot to score. Jonesboro countered this with a layup of their own, then add on two more at the free throw line on the following possession. Lakeview scored again when Saniyah Marshall got an and-one to fall, as well as converting her free throw. Jonesboro followed with two layups on back to back possessions. Hailey Poydras got an easy score right under the basket afterward

The Lady Tigers scored again, but Lakeview turned it on. The Lady Gators went on an 8-2 run to finish the quarter, capped off by a layup at the buzzer by Janaiya Fisher as Lakeview led 15-12 after one.
The second quarter started off with Jameisha Fisher getting her defender jump at the perimeter and driving inside for an easy deuce. Timberly Washington followed with a steal and simple fast break layup. Marshall fought her way inside again and earned her team some second chance points. It was back and forth for the remainder of the quarter, but Lakeview still led 25-19 at halftime.

The third quarter began with Jameisha Fisher knocking down Lakeview’s only three of the night, a rare occurrence for the Lady Gators. Marshall got four straight points for Lakeview to help push their lead to 13.

Zenobia Poydras made a couple fall at the free throw line after Jonesboro made their first layup of the second half. Asharia Smith followed with a mid-range jumper. The Lady Tigers scores five straight, but that did not faze the Lady Gators. Lakeview’s last six points of the quarter came from steals and fast breaks. Jonesboro attempted to make a comeback from the double digit deficit in the fourth, but the lead was just too much for them to handle. Lakeview walked away the winners with a final score of 53-45.
The Lady Gators are by far the favorites to walk away district champs in a couple weeks, but if they can win their six district games, plus a game against Atlanta in February, Lakeview has a pretty good chance at a top four seed and a huge home game in round three of the playoffs.
