Tigers gain one in victory column while Lady Tigers drop one in District action

Coach Racheal Cunningham hands out the hardware.

St. Mary’s Tiger basketball traveled to LaSalle last Friday evening after a close game against Block at home earlier in the week. The Tigers came up short in that contest but left no doubt at LaSalle that they had come to play and make a statement.

A big win on the road by the Tigers has them sitting at 3-2 in district play. The 64-29 victory sets up Tuesdays contest against District leading Northwood-Lena. In the LaSalle victory, Dane Files sunk 19 points and pick pocketed the hosts 5 times while snagging 3 rebounds.

Payne Williams was a close second with 14 points, 4 steals and 2 boards. The lady Tigers did not fare as well. They lost 38-30 and will have to try and regroup against district leading Northwood-Lena too. The Lady Gators are currently unscathed in district play and ranked number 3 in Class 1-A with a 12-2 record.

State Championship rings were presented to members of the winning team at an outdoor pep rally

A tall task for the defending Division IV State Champions who received their bling Friday evening at an outdoor pep rally and ceremony. The second half of district is upon the Tigers and Lady Tigers as baseball and softball are quickly approaching. It remains to be seen what these two teams can make of their seasons.
