Lady Gators steamroll on Senior Night, win 9th straight

The Lakeview Lady Gators were red hot coming into last Friday’s matchup against Atlanta. Taking a break from district to celebrate Senior Night, the Lady Gators were ranked fourth in Class 2A going into the matchup, and needed to finish off the year without a loss If they wanted to keep that seed. Last year when these two teams faced off, it came down to a last second free throw to give Lakeview the win.

This year the game started off exactly how it should on Senior Night, with Zenobia Poydras getting inside and putting back an offensive board for the first two. Timberly Washington, who had an incredible night defensively, then got the steal and easy layup.

Atlanta got their first points, then Lakeview really opened it up. Janaiya Fisher scored seven straight before Atlanta could knock down an and-1 at the line. Fisher then drove to the hoop and threw a no look pass to Poydras on the block for another easy bucket.

Atlanta scored back to back field goals over the following minute. Poydras continued her strong first quarter, driving to the hoop and making it on one possession, and following it up with a 2 of 4 mark at the free throw line on the next two. After Atlanta scored again off a drive, Shakayla Browder, the only other Lady Gator senior, got her first points of the night. Fisher finished off the quarter with a top of the arch three to push Lakeview’s lead 22-11.

Atlanta started the second quarter with a deep three, followed by Janaiya doing the same for the Lady Gators. Atlanta ran the game for the next couple of minutes, outscoring Lakeview 12-6 and closing the Gator lead. Lakeview finished the half with an 11-2 run to put them in the lead 42-28 at the half.

That lead was just too much for Atlanta to recover. Lakeview outscored them 19-10 in the second half and walked away the victors with a score of 61-38.

Janaiya Fisher finished the game with 20 points as the leading scorer for Lakeview, the Lady Gator Seniors combined for 15 points and Timberly Washington finished with 10 points and a whopping 12 steals on the night. This gives the ladies of Lakeview a nine game win streak.
