SHIRLEY MARIE SEWELL

COUSHATTA, LA

Nov. 22, 1957-Feb. 11, 2021

Graveside services for Shirley Marie Sewell, 63, of Coushatta were at 2 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 14 in Clear Springs Cemetery with Bro. Harry Bamburg officiating.

Shirley was born Nov. 22, 1957, and went to her Heavenly home Feb. 11, 2021.

She was born in Coushatta to Bennie Dupree Sewell and Therman Sewell, and remained a resident of Coushatta her entire life.  Shirley grew up knowing the Lord and going to church at Bethel Baptist Church and then later in life at Freedom Worship Baptist Church until she was unable to drive herself, at which point, she watched televised services.

She was known as Aunt Shoo Shoo to her great nephews and Aunt Shirley to her nieces and nephews as well as several that chose to call her Aunt.  She was to be known as Grandma this coming April.  Even though she will not be able to watch her grandson come into the world or watch him grow up here on earth, she will be watching over him from above.  He will have his own Guardian Angel.

Shirley was known for being able to cook anything and everything and make it taste great.  She spent many years in the food industry while working for Green Meadow Haven, Christus Coushatta and the Specialty Rehab.  Most of the time she held down two jobs at a time until a leg injury disabled her.  Shirley was also known for loving the cold as anyone visiting her would attest to.  Her house was always freezing which makes this winter storm appropriate as it is named Storm Shirley.

While raising Victoria, she was both mother and father to her and always made sure she had everything she needed and most times everything she wanted.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Bennie and Therman Sewell as well as a brother, Kenneth Sewell.

She is survived by her daughter, Victoria L. Buswell and husband Dusty; sister, Nona Sewell; brother, Therman (Dink) Sewell and wife Joyce, James Sewell and wife Cecilia; three nieces, Amber Aulick, Ashley Davis and Jaime Roberson; and two nephews, Trey Sewell and Brandon White; six great nephews; one great niece; many aunts and uncles; as well as a great friend, Ramona Parks.

Pallbearers were Trey Sewell, Dusty Buswell, James Sewell, Brandon Roberson, Brandon White and Dustin Davis.

Honorary pallbearers were Luther Buswell, Justin Dupree, James Moseley and Dink Sewell.

The family would like to thank the staff at Christus Coushatta Hospital, LSU Ochsner’s and Red River EMS for taking care of Shirley during this time.  A special thank you to Dr. Chico for always staying on call for her.  We also want to thank each and every one that called, texted or stopped by with words of comfort and care.
