“There is no current schedule for rolling blackouts,” said SWEPCO External Affairs Manager Michael D. Corbin. “Calculating ‘load shed’ is extremely fluid and actually changes by the hour. SWEPCO initiated the first round of blackouts earlier today which lasted about an hour. At the current time, no additional outages are planned but this could certainly change as conditions across the grid change.”
“While we are not able to provide advance notice to specific areas, we are alerting all customers of the possibility of controlled outages,” said Carey A. Sullivan, SWEPCO Director of Communications. “As an update, the controlled outages that began earlier today have ended as the combined efforts of customers of multiple utilities have helped achieve the required reductions in electricity demand.”
