The 2021 LHSAA indoor track championship was Sunday at the LSU field house in Baton Rouge. Saint Mary’s placed two competitors, seniors Maggie Gilmore and Jensen Parker, in finals action who would only a day later compete on the hardwood. The Saint Mary’s duo competed in the Division II championships which included classes 1A-3A and B and C classifications. This was extremely broad ranging field of competition divided by enrollment numbers.

Gilmore qualified in the high jump, triple jump and the long jump, but competed in the high jump and long jump. She finished fourth in the triple and sixth in the high. She finished her indoor career with 10 qualifications for State Championships.

Parker qualified in and competed in the 400-meter and 800-meter races. She finished sixth in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:31.92.

The pair led St. Mary’s to a 19th place finish as a team. The defending Division IV State Champion Lady Tigers basketball team had a tough season. They finished with a 10-9 record that had bright spots along the way. As the 10 seed, the Lady Tigers faced Opelousas Catholic in the seven seed spot Monday night.

The Lady Vikings led from the early minutes and would not relinquish. The Lady Tigers pulled to within five points when the final buzzer sounded. The final score of 47-42 reflects the fighting spirit of the relatively young and talented group. Be on the lookout for this group in the years to come. Saint Mary’s might just be reloading.

Ava Errington, Kelsee and Cameron Bienvenu were key players this year. They have felt the thrill of victory at the highest level and are hungry to return.
