12 Tigers qualify for state

The Saint Mary’s Tiger powerlifters performed well at State meet. St. Mary’s had nine male and three female lifters qualify and compete at the State Tournament hosted by ULM.

Anna Kate Jackson won silver in her weight class and Chloe Nash finished fifth with Sara Thibodaux posting a ninth-place performance.

Anna Kate Jackson took silver in her weight class with a total lift of 705 pounds.

Jackson had a meet lift total of 705 pounds for her second-place finish with a 315 pound deadlift, a 135 pound bench press and 255 pound squat.

The nine men scored enough points to medal as a team, taking third place in Division V that had 16 teams.

Sophomore Kolton Norsworthy lifted 1,165 pounds to take the silver medal.

Kolton Norsworthy also had a silver medal podium finish for the Tigers. He posted a total lift of 1,165 pounds with a 480 deadlift, a 260 bench press and 425 squat. Adding to his medal performance were an eighth place, three seventh place finishes, two fifths and two fourth places.

Mason Mathis was the lone lifter in eighth place. Gunner Nash, Logan Watson and Ian Gardner were seventh. Jace Miley and C.J. Smith were the fourth place Tigers. Will DeVargas and Cole Fisher placed fifth.

Miley had a personal record 500 pound squat in his last time lifting for the Tigers.
