A loving father, devoted husband, brother and proud grandfather, Thomas Allen Solomon, died at his home in the morning hours of April 12, 2021, after a long struggle with cancer.

Tommy was a 1969 graduate of Natchitoches High School and went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in general studies with a concentration in business from Northwestern State University.

He first worked for Whitney National Bank overseeing computer printouts of accounts and statements for local banks.  From there he began a 17-year career in law enforcement working for the Natchitoches Parish Sheriffs Office.  He later accepted a position with the City of Natchitoches Utility Department as the IT Director.

A man of integrity and honesty, he was adamant about doing everything the proper way.  He enjoyed listening to all types of music and attending live theatre.  In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, hunting and traveling with family and friends.

Tommy was preceded in death by his father, Allen Joe Solomon; mother, Gertrude Scott Solomon; step-mother, Gloria Lee Solomon; stepbrother, Forrest McFarland; and a niece, Linda Willett Freeman.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Laura Carnal Solomon; three children, Paul Solomon of Natchitoches, Margaret Davison of Montgomery and Mary Louise Gagnon of North Carolina; five grandchildren, Austin Solomon, Keeley Crissman, Daniel Davison, Owen Gagnon and Cole Gagnon; three brothers, David Solomon, Joe Solomon and Richard McFarland; and two sisters, Kathleen McFarland and Betty Jo Willett.

Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be Thursday, April 15 at 5:30 p.m. in the chapel of Blanchard-St. Denis Funeral Home with a visitation to follow from 6-9 p.m.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 1 p.m. Friday, April 16 at the Minor Basilica of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church of Natchitoches with the Rev. Louis Sklar serving as celebrant.  Burial will follow at Wilmer Cemetery in Lecompte.

Those honored to serve as pallbearers include Joe Solomon, David Solomon, Justin Solomon, Jason Solomon, Johnny Mayher, Bobby Willett and Austin Solomon.

Honorary pallbearers will be Carter Moore, Robert Willett, Daniel Davison and Richard McFarland.

All of the family would like to extend many thanks to Hospice of Natchitoches for their loving care and attention given to Tommy in his final days with us.
