Work has begun on the new Fire District 4 station in Provencal. It is the last of six to be rebuilt and updated. The new station will have three double depth bays to house the current Engine 1, Tanker 1 and Brush truck 1, with room in the bays to bring in any other apparatus to work on them, along with a workshop area to service other tools and equipment according to the district’s social media page.

Assistant Chief Brad Woodell said the district was organized in the early 70s and the original building, made entirely of wood, came down in 2008 or 2009.
Assistant Chief James Dupree said the $325,000 project is slated for completion in November. “The plans call for this to also be used by the entire community for public events,” he said. Once the new building is complete, the existing one will be completely remodeled and converted to provide offices, a training classroom, kitchen area and eventually a computer lab for FD4 members to continue their fire science, EMS and first responder education online.
Fire Dist. 4 serves the communities of Provencal, Flora, Vowells Mill, Bellwood, Kisatchie and the Central Loop area.
