Tennis team members qualify for state

Saint Mary’s tennis has been making noise all season and that would crescendo into the sweet sound of state qualifiers at the Regional tournament. Three girls’ doubles teams and one boy’s duo made it to state, and Emma Broadway and Andrew Kautz qualified as singles.

The singles, Kautz and Broadway, finished second at regionals. Kolby Lipa and Stephen Wheat are the boy’s doubles state qualifiers and are the eight seed with a 6-4 season record.

They will play a pair from Houma Christian. Kautz enters as the 28 seed and is .500 on the season with a 5-5 record.

Emma Broadway serves in a match at Regionals.

Broadway is also a 28 seed with a 5-2 record on the season. In ladies doubles, the Younes twins are the number one seed in Division IV.

The LSMSA students competing at St. Mary’s have a 6-2 record this season and won their match at Regionals.

Maggie Gilmore and Sheridan Pesnell are the 31 seed. Maggie Wheat and Mary Grace Long, also LSMSA students, are the 21 seed.

The Division IV playoffs will begin Thursday, April 29 in Monroe. As a team, the Saint Mary’s girls are 6-2 on the season and the boys are 6-4.
