Saint Mary’s Ladies competed in the 1-A Regional Championship last Tuesday and garnered fifth place as a team. Three break-out seniors advance to the State Championship May 6 at the LSU track and field complex. Maggie Gilmore, Jensen Parker and Maggie Wheat began this trio trek as sixth graders at St. Mary’s in a junior high meet at Lakeside High. As a poetic ending, they finished regional competition at the same venue.

The three have been classmates since kindergarten and are an integral part of Lady Tiger teams during their high school days. All three were members of the State Championship basketball team and have run cross country. In addition to track and field events, Gilmore and Parker competed in State Competition for indoor track.
Wheat and Gilmore qualified for the State Tennis Championship this week in Monroe. Gilmore competed in four events in the regionals. She claimed victory in the high jump, second in the triple jump, fourth in long jump and ninth in discuss.
Gilmore was the Field MVP for highest total points in field events. She was State Runner-Up in 2019 and finished sixth in 2017. Jensen Parker won the 800 meter race and will return to State in that event after finishing fifth in 2018 and 2019. Maggie Wheat finished second in the 3200-meter race and will be making her first trip to State in that event. She was fourth in the 1600M.

In addition to the senior trio, Saint Mary’s had other notable performances. Cameron Bienvenu finished fourth in the javelin. Gabby Godfrey finished fifth in the 300M hurdles and 10th in the 100M hurdles. Anna Kate Jackson was 11th in the 800M. Anna Marie McClung was 11th in the 200M and Sophia Hogg was seventh in the 1600M run.
The boys had five participants in the regional meet. Andrew Godfrey finished 11th in the 1600M run and 10th in the 3200M. Colton Cross finished 11th in the 300M hurdles and 10th in the 100M hurdles. Mason McCart was seventh in the 1600M and sixth in the 800M runs. Chalin Gandy finished fifth in the pole vault. DJ Ridley finished fifth in the high jump.
