Phillip Lloyd Gillis, 53, died Thursday, April 29, 2021, in Natchitoches. Phillip was born March 13, 1968, in Del Rio, Texas, to Wiley Benjamin Gillis and Barbara Gillis.
He is preceded in death by his father, Wiley Benjamin Gillis Sr. Phillip is survived by his wife, Oona Zbitkovskis Gillis; daughter, Olivia Gillis; mother, Barbara Gillis; brother, Ben Gillis; sister-in-law, Angie Hsiung Gillis; sons, Andrew Benjamin and John Paul; mother-in-law, Laura Johnson; sister-in-law, Rebekah French and husband Ryan French and their sons Michael, Jacob, Zak and Chase; and brother-in-law, Zak Johnson.
He received both a BA and MA from Northwestern State University and has worked in the field of Computer Programming for over 25 years. Phillip was currently employed by his alma mater as Associate Director of Academic Services.
Phillip was a loyal friend and a loving husband and father. He was an intelligent, active man who was deeply involved in numerous and ongoing creative and entrepreneurial endeavors; however, his first love was music. Phillip began with the violin but quickly found his true passion in the guitar. Although it remained his primary instrument, he was able to create music with any instrument he touched. He made lifelong friends throughout his musical career and was a member/leader of many projects. His family and friends will always remember him as a gentle, kind man, who loved animals, had an incredible sense of humor and a sharp wit.
A memorial service is scheduled for May 29, 2021, at the home of Ryan and Bekah French at 1615 Williams Ave., Natchitoches, LA 71457, from 1-5 p.m. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Phillip’s life.
