Cane River Family Medicine and Dr. William Luster, MD, received their first shipment of Janssen/Johnson and Johnson COVID vaccine. The first shipment is 100 doses and they plan to start giving them to the public at their office, 617 Bienville St., this upcoming week during business hours.

According to Dr. Luster, at this time they don’t plan on requiring appointments. “The joy of these vaccines is not having to schedule multiple doses weeks apart. It’s just one and done. That’s particularly helpful for people who are home-bound, travel, work nights or otherwise can’t easily be pinned-down,” he said.

This vaccine comes in a vial of five doses which expires six hours after the first shot is drawn and the practice could make them available after hours and offsite to groups by prior arrangement. Dr. Luster said they are in contact with the Natchitoches Regional Medical Center, home health and other sites in order to make the available through as many outlets as possible for those who have previously had trouble getting vaccinated.
