A Campti man is currently incarcerated in the Red River Parish Jail in connection with a domestic abuse incident in north Natchitoches Parish according to Natchitoches Parish Sheriff Stuart Wright.
On Wednesday, May 12, at 10:01 p.m., Deputies assigned to the NPSO Patrol Division responded to 911 reports of a domestic disturbance involving injuries in the 600 block of Sandy Point Road, north of Campti.
Deputies say upon their arrival, they discovered the female victim suffering from lacerations, a periorbital hematoma and bruises.
Deputies learned during the investigation, that the victim’s boyfriend identified as Tommy Lee Mathews of Campti committed a battery on her multiple times and other acts.
The victim’s six-month old infant was present in the residence.
Mathews then fled the area in the victim’s vehicle and took her cell phone before deputies arrived on scene.
Natchitoches Regional Medical Center EMS responded.
The victim was transported to Natchitoches Regional Medical Center for non-life threatening injuries.
The child was released to and taken care of by a relative until the victim could return home.
Deputies checked several locations in the Sandy Point, Black Lake, and Campti areas but were unable to locate Mathews.
A local law enforcement BOLO message was issued for Mathews.
Deputies interviewed, and photographed the victim’s injuries at Natchitoches Regional Medical Center for an offense report and investigative purposes.
Deputies continued the investigation, obtaining criminal warrants signed by a 10th Judicial District Court Judge for the arrest of Mathews on the charges of Domestic Abuse Battery, Domestic Abuse Child Endangerment Law, Motor Vehicle Theft and Theft of a Cell Phone.
Deputies continued to look for Mathews.
On Sunday afternoon May 16th, Natchitoches and Red River Parish Sheriff’s Deputies located Mathews hiding in the attic of a residence in Red River Parish near the Natchitoches Parish line.
Mathews, 30, of Campti was placed under arrest and booked into the Red River Parish Jail on Natchitoches Parish criminal charges of Domestic Abuse Battery, Domestic Abuse Child Endangerment, Motor Vehicle Theft, Theft of a Cell Phone. Mathews also has outstanding warrants in Red River Parish.
The victim was issued a LAVNS form. The Louisiana Automated Victim Notification System (LAVNS) is a service provided by the Louisiana Commission on Law Enforcement. LAVNS monitors the custody status of adult inmates in all parish jails and state prisons.
The system permits crime victims and their families to obtain information pertaining to the custody status of the offender.
Mathews is expected to be transported to the Natchitoches Parish Detention Center at a later date.
The vehicle has been recovered with some damages.
Involved in the initial investigation and arrest were: Deputies C. Crow, K. Samuel, Detective V. Kay, D. Caballero, and C. Dranguet.
