Opal Giddens Gray, 84, of Fairview Alpha passed away with her children at her side at 5:03 p.m., May 16, 2021.  She was born Nov. 4, 1936, to Claudie and Maggie Pate Giddens in Campti.

She married the love of her life, R.G. Gray, June 6, 1955.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, May 18 at 11 a.m. at Rockett-Nettles Funeral Home with the Rev. Olan McLaren presiding. Burial to follow at Bethany Cemetery in Fairview Alpha.  Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Monday, May 17 at the funeral home.

R.G. and Opal loved being together outdoors riding their ATV around the pasture and watching the birds while drinking coffee.

Opal was an excellent cook and baker and loved nothing more than preparing meals and dishes for her family and friends. She loved to talk, visit, read and keep in touch over long phone conversations.

She retired after 22 years as a cafeteria worker at Fairview Alpha Elementary School where she touched many lives.

Her greatest joy in life was her children, grandchildren and three great-granddaughters and she spent many hours attending programs, dinners and ballgames for each of them.

Opal was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 46 years, R.G. Gray in 2002; and siblings, Louie Giddens, Elaine Warner and Shirley Burns.

She is survived by her children, Karen Sue Gray Evans and Ralph Gray and wife Juanice; grandchildren, Jonathan Evans and Marion Gay, Pam Gray Bamberg and husband Earl, and Hank Gray; great-granddaughters, Grayci Sue, Remington Rose and Freya Pearl Bamberg; siblings, Fay Ward and husband Vernon, Richard Giddens and wife Billie “Mike” and Doug Giddens and wife Dale; brother-in-law, Joe Warner; special friend, Ruth Craig; and a host of nieces, nephews, other family and friends.

Honoring her as pallbearers are Freddy Blanchard, Len Blanchard, Phillip McLaren, Tommy Ebey, T-Wayne Britain and Wayne Longino.

Honorary pallbearers are Robert Hillman, and brothers, Doug and Richard Giddens.

In lieu of flowers the family asks for donation in her name to Shriner’s Hospital, Shreveport, Office of Development, Opal Gray, 3100 Samford Ave., Shreveport, LA 71103.
