Hope you have a wonderful Memorial Day Weekend. JT urges you to take a short pause sometimes during the weekend to remember those who lost their lives in service to our country.

We read so much about how the Republican and Democratic Parties just can’t get along and that’s both at the state and national level. Now it appears within the Republican Party in the Louisiana Legislature…they can ‘t get along either. State Representative Jack McFarland of Winnfield was recently named to lead a group in the legislature called the Conservative Caucus. It’s actually not new, but has been dormant for several years. So apparently some Republicans are not conservative and that’s why inclusion in the group is by invitation only. JT would sure like to see a list of who’s invited. He bets a lot of lawmakers might just have some explaining to do to their constituents.

JT sees where it’s about to cost you $100 the first time you are caught holding your cell phone and talking while driving. That’s not a bad idea at all. Second offense could hit you in the pocket book $300 and a third offense is $300 plus a suspension of your license. JT doubts we’ll see a lot of third offenses…just like we don’t see a lot of DWI third offenses. But the bill is good…even though JT is guilty of talking and driving. He’s consulted his techie…his grandson…and has a plan on how to get out of the habit before the new law takes affect. One is to make sure his Bluetooth is activated in his vehicle and the other is to purchase some of those “ear buds” he despises so much.

The thought of offering money or prizes to take the antivirus shots, like some states are doing, is just another way the government is getting you to do what they want you to do; not to mention a waste of taxpayer dollars. It’s like rewarding bad behavior. They tell you that the shot is free and everyone needs to be vaccinated. But yet, if you choose not to have the virus shot that’s really ok because we’ll offer you some incentives later.

JT figures if you wanted the vaccination you’ve already been vaccinated. For that you got a sticker that said, “I’ve been vaccinated.” Had you waited, on the other hand, you might have gotten a “shot“ at a big cash reward or prize. If vaccination compliance was really the goal…..all they had to do was make it mandatory. JT was young when the Polio vaccination was done across the country and he doesn’t remember having an option. JT also hears that some universities are requiring proof of vaccination before allowing students to enroll.
