Calvin J. Dees Sr., passed away Sunday, May 30, 2021, at the age of 80 at Ochsner Medical Center. He was born Oct. 15, 1940, in Picayune, Miss., the son of Walter Dees Sr. and Katie Beck Dees.
A resident of Baker, Mr. Dees was a retired principal from the Department of Corrections (Jetson). He was devoted to his family and church. He was the Adult #1 Sunday School Class teacher at Greater King David Baptist Church where he also served as a Deacon; and was a member of numerous other church auxiliaries.
He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Oletha Blake Dees; children, Yolanda Johnson (Sherred), Jeffrey Dees (Dawn), Kimberly Carter, Calvin Dees Jr., Yvette Thompson, Dr. Nicole Robert (David) and Monique Davis (Kevin); daughter-in-law, Gilda Dees; 22 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; God-children, Regina Williams, Kim F. Lacour and Marcia Lacour; siblings, Alice Dees, Paul Dees (Lorene), Dr. Pearl D. Ducre’, Willie Dees (Gladys) and Evelyn Walker; brothers-in-law, Carvin, Terry (Mary) and Donnie Blake (Brenda); sisters-in-law, Shirley Blake, Diane Blake Jones (Kelvin); numerous nieces, nephews, great-great nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends including, Greater King David Baptist Church family; George Washington Carver High School Class of 1959; and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity brothers.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Darrick; in-laws, Frank Blake Sr. and Esther V. Wright Blake; and brothers-and sisters-in-law, Sidney Ducre,’ Frank Jr., Bessie, Freddie, Marvin and Wayne Blake.
Funeral services were at Greater King David Baptist Church-Blount Road, Saturday, June 5, at 10 a.m. conducted by Pastor John Montgomery II. Interment followed at Picayune Cemetery, Picayune, Miss.
