SHREVEPORT, LA

Feb. 18, 1943-June 7, 2021

Funeral services for James “Rick” LaCour, 78, will be Saturday, June 12 at 2 p.m. at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 2500 Southside Drive, Shreveport. Rick passed away Monday, June 7, 2021, in Shreveport from ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease) complications. Burial will follow at Fern Park Cemetery in Natchitoches. A visitation will be Saturday from noon until service time at the funeral home. Dave Edwards will officiate.

Rick was born Feb. 18, 1943, in Natchitoches to Willie James LaCour and Joyce Wilson LaCour.

He was a resident of Shreveport and worked as an electrician before retiring. He met his wife, Rose “Ginger” LaCour in Quantico, Va., as a Marine in 1963, and was married for 54 years.

Throughout his life, he was an avid outdoorsman and hunter, but especially enjoyed activities with his grandchildren. His positive, upbeat and often humorous personality endeared him to so many people, and he never met a stranger.

Rick is preceded in death by his parents; wife; and brother, Murrell LaCour.

Left to cherish his memory are his children, James LaCour Jr., of Shreveport; Michelle LaCour-Duval and husband, Daniel, of Eugene, Ore.; God-daughter, Cindy Vergo and husband Rodney of Blanchard; numerous “adopted” children he loved and embraced as his own; sister, Polly Martin and husband Larry of Monroe; sister-in-law, Carol Fernino and husband Joe Bodie of Derby, Conn.; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

The family would like to express special thanks to Rick’s friends, Dave and Linda Edwards of Bossier City, Emily Wright of Shreveport and Jake Jacobs of Bossier City for all their love, care and support shown to Rick during his illness.

His wife’s ashes will be included in a joint committal service to honor her as well.

The family suggests memorials may be made to the ALS Association or the charity of the donor’s choice.
