June 16, 2021 Rivers Rhodes Wallace died peacefully in her sleep on June 16, 2021.  The cause was long-term complications from a stroke she experienced several years ago.   A resident of Shreveport since the mid-1950s, she was 98.

She is survived by two daughters, Amy Dowty Lore of New York City and Karen Marie Doty of Winston-Salem, NC; two sons, Ford Wallace Jr. of Shreveport and Jonathan Wallace of Dallas; six grandchildren, Adrienne Beede Kizer, Adam Beede, Rebecca Beede, Lindsay Wallace Hammond, Robert Wallace and Cade Wallace; and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Rivers Rhodes Beede.

A teacher in the Caddo Parish School System prior to her retirement, she taught ninth-grade English with wit and verve.  She will be remembered with great affection by generations of students at Linwood and Youree Drive Middle Schools. A member of St Paul’s Episcopal Church throughout her life in Shreveport, she was renowned for her complete knowledge of all things pertaining to the Altar Guild.

In 2010 she spent her 87th birthday in Jerusalem as a participant in a pilgrimage organized by St. Paul’s.

A legendary home baker and cook, she gathered family, friends and St. Paul’s members for holiday parties that will long be remembered.

A memorial service was at St. Paul’s Shreveport July 22. Interment followed in the American Cemetery, Natchitoches.
