Natchitoches Dive Team responded to a boating fatality on Lake Bistineau July 4.

•••The victim is identified as Keshaun Garner, 20, of Bossier City. The operator of the vessel, Hayes M. Meek, 20, of Shreveport, was arrested for alleged operating or driving a vessel while intoxicated (DWI).•••

Bienville Fire Chief Bobby Conley said he got the call around 7:30 p.m. yesterday, July 3, concerning a boating incident on Lake Bistineau. “We believe there were several people boat riding when the boat turned and the victim fell out, went down and never came up,” he said.

Natchitoches Parish Dive Team members responded Sunday, July 4 to assist with the search.  Sheriff Stuart Wright deployed his team immediately.  The Dive Team worked alongside Bienville rescue and South Bossier Fire personnel, Red River Parish divers and members of La. Dept. of Wildlife and Fisheries.

The victim, a 20-year-old male, was recovered shortly after 9 a.m. His identity is being withheld pending notification of family.

The Natchitoches Dive Team consists of personnel from Fire Districts 9 and 6.

Fire Dist. 9 Chief Doug Rachal advised sonar technology was used to located the victim in about 11 feet of water. “Divers were deployed to make the recovery,” he said.

Conley said in addition to the dive teams, a K-9 was enroute to the scene when the victim was recovered.

The NP Dive Team consists of members of the Natchitoches Fire Districts 6 and 9.

All parties involved extend condolences to the victim’s family and friends.
