Big Boy No. 4014 to roll through Natchitoches Aug. 23


The Big Boy No. 4014, the world’s largest steam locomotive, is rolling out on tour Aug. 5 with a scheduled stop in Natchitoches Monday, Aug. 23. The tour will go through 10 states, beginning in Cheyenne, Wyo.

It is scheduled to arrive at the Trudeau Street crossing at 1:30 p.m. and depart at 2:15 p.m.

The Big Boy weighs 1.2 million pounds and rode the rails from 1941-1961, going more than 1 million miles.

The Big Boy No. 4014 is expected to make it into Texas on Friday, Aug. 13. While on tour, there will be multiple stops in Texas through Thursday, Aug. 19, when it heads into Louisiana.

Scheduled stops are subject to change.

To see the seam locomotive in person, stand back at least 25 feet from the railroad tracks to avoid debris and the train itself.  Never assume tracks are abandoned or inactive. Always expect a train.
