Louisiana Team Earns Third Place Honors in National 4-H Forestry Invitationa

Louisiana placed third among nine states that competed in the National 4-H Forestry Invitational from July 26-28. Teams from Georgia and Tennessee placed first and second, respectively. Florida, Indiana, Maryland, North Carolina, Virginia and West Virginia also competed. 4-H members competed for overall team and individual awards in several categories. Events included tree identification, tree measurement, insect and disease identification, topographic map use and a forestry knowledge exam. Natchitoches 4-H Forestry team members were Josie Fontenot, Chance Fontenot, Teegan McKnight, Gunner Nash and coach Randall Mallette. Individual award winners from Louisiana were Josie Fontenot with the eighth highest score and Teegan McKnight with the ninth highest overall score.
