Heat advisory issued; tropical disturbance could evolve into hurricane

A Heat Advisory has been posted for the entire Four State Region again today from Noon until 6 pm this evening.

We continue to watch the tropics as a Tropical Depression could form Today or Friday across the Western Caribbean before the storm moves into the Gulf of Mexico sometime Friday Night or Saturday.

Timing and Overview:

Concerning the Heat Advisory in effect today, look for afternoon Heat Indices to reach between 105 and 108 degrees today.  Hopefully this will be the end of the daily Heat Advisories with increased rain chances forecast for Friday which may help to taper temperatures slightly.

Concerning the tropics and any impacts on our region, there is a 90 percent chance of the disturbance currently across the western Caribbean moving into the southeast Gulf of Mexico this weekend and intensifying into a Hurricane as it moves towards the Northern Gulf Coast.

Given the very warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico and weak shear, rapid intensification is possible once this system enters the gulf this weekend. What is uncertain is the track this storm will take and that could mean the difference in very little impacts across our region or possible significant impacts across at least portions of our region.
