Lady Chiefs go set for match against district rival Benton

Natchitoches Central celebrates their set for match against district rival Benton.

Natchitoches Central High School varsity volleyball kicked off their season with a 3-0 sweep over district rival Benton High.  The NCHS Lady Chiefs minimized any sign of defeat with a close 25-23 first set, a safe 25-16 second set and a closing 25-19 third set to capture the sweep.   Des Robinson led the way for the Lady Chiefs with six aces and five kills. Gracie Moore contributed six kills, six digs and eight assists. Ma’Kira Carpenter’s defensive effort helped NCHS with three kills and eight blocks.

A dominant effort for the Lady Chiefs sparked a great running start for the season.

“We started off slow, which is unusual for us, but we came back in each set to win and sweep Benton in our first district match,” Kerri Kiracofe, head volleyball coach for NCHS, said. “I’m looking forward to next week’s home games on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.”

The Lady Chiefs play in the Woodlawn Jamboree this weekend,Sept. 3-4, followed by district rival West Monroe Tuesday, Sept. 7.
