A 53-year journey

After graduating from West Monroe High School in 1968, Randy Cole began his journey at Louisiana Tech University. In 1972, he completed his Bachelor of Science degree and was accepted to LSU School of Dentistry that fall.

During these four years he would become part of a study group that included Joe Gardner (Baton Rouge), Martin Morris (Zachary), Mike Nolan (Monroe) and Bill Gaddis (Jena).

In their senior year Dr. Cole and Dr. Gaddis determined that Winnfield would be a good place to start a practice. They joined Dr. Jack Evans. By 1982 they had outgrown that original office so that year Cole left to go solo at a newly constructed facility on West Court Street.

He has been married for 46 years to Melanie Ann Read Cole who resided here from 1953-63. They both joined First Baptist Church in 1978 and have been active members since.

His family grew in 1979 and 1982 with the birth of his daughters, Shelley Cole Parker and Kendal Cole Singh. He has three grandsons, Preston, John Cole and Patrick.

Dr. Cole was a 39-year member of the Winnfield Lions Club. He twice served as club president. He also was recognized as a Melvin Jones Fellow in 2017. Many great memories were made in this wonderful service organization.

Many of you know of his great enjoyment for playing golf. He has been a member of Pine Ridge Club since 1976, supporting the club in multiple ways.

Another great passion has been everything involving Louisiana Tech University. He has served on the Board of Directors at Tech and been local Alumni president. His wife and daughters also graduated from La. Tech.

During these 45 years, it has become obvious that serving in a Dental Manpower Shortage Area was a mission. There have been many wonderful staff members that have made serving the community of Winn Parish possible. A sincere “thank you” to each and every one of you. A very special thanks to Trenia Davis and Eva Rodriquez for their many years of loyal service. Cole is humbled and honored to have been allowed to provide dental care these many years to the people of this area.

His dental career will end Sept. 9, 2021. The office will remain open until Oct. 9 for patients to pick up their records.

Cole is looking forward to the next chapter of his life with his wife, Melanie.

A reception will be on the afternoon of Sept. 9 from 1-4 p.m. to say goodbye. Thank you Winn Parish for being such a great place to live!
