Funeral services for Suzanne Marie Bumgardner, 67, of Ashland will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 22 at Ashland Baptist Church with Bro. Perry Anderson officiating and Bro. Jerry Martin assisting.  Interment will follow in Ramah Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Ashland Baptist Church.  Services under the direction of Rockett-Nettles Funeral Home, Coushatta.

Mrs. Bumgardner was born Feb. 13, 1954, in Lake Charles and passed away Sept. 18, 2021.

Suzanne “Susie Q” Bumgardner was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend.  She had a personality that would light up any room and a laugh that was contagious.  Suzanne loved spending time in the kitchen creating delicious meals for her family. Her joy was found cooking Sunday dinners where all of her family and friends had an open invitation.

Suzanne’s pride was in her school and students. She completed her Master’s degree +30 in Education at Northwestern State University.  She taught the majority of her career at Castor High School, where she shared her passion for learning with thousands of students over the years.  Suzanne retired after 31 years and spent her time loving on her grandchildren. They were her pride and joy.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Tuff and Winnie Pilley; and one sister, Mary Ann Pilley.

Mrs. Bumgardner is survived by her husband of 48 years, Tommy Bumgardner; two sons, Timothy Bumgardner and Patrick Bumgardner and wife Angela; one daughter, Hayley Lewis; two brothers, Allen Pilley and wife Debra and Patrick Pilley and wife Lynn; one sister, Evelyn Doucet and husband Craig; 10 grandchildren, Terry Mac Swayze, Cade Bumgardner, Madison Bumgardner, Taylor Bumgardner, Emily Giles and husband Kaleb, Carlie Bumgardner, Ethan Bumgardner, Jaxon Bumgardner, Jake Lewis Jr. and Joshua Lewis; numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Ethan Bumgardner, Jake Lewis Jr., Cade Bumgardner, Terry Mac Swayze, Dave Bumgardner, Josh LeGrande, Barry Plunkett and Aaron Doucet.

Honorary pallbearers will be Ricky, Roger, David and Jimmy Bumgardner.
