Aug. 9, 1961-Sept. 27, 2021

Richard Steven Stalling passed away peacefully at the age of 60 following a long illness. He was born Aug. 9, 1961, in Fairfax, Mo., to Dick and Emmalea Stalling.

Richard is survived by his father, Dr. Dick Stalling; stepmother, Teresa; sister, Marcia Bolton (Shelby); step-brother, Bert Fackler (Daisy) and niece, Olivia; step-sister, Annie Haynes (Chris); and uncles, Clyde Stalling (Ginny) and Alvin Seddon.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Emmalea Seddon Stalling; aunt, Thelma Seddon; paternal grandparents, Ernest and Mary Stalling; and maternal grandparents, Alvin and Anna Seddon.

Growing up, Richard lived in several towns including Kansas City, Kan., Columbia Mo., Empporia, Kan., Great Sand Dunes National Monument, Colo., Norman, Okla., Natchitoches, and Eugene, Ore.

Richard loved school and learning. He earned three college degrees from NSU and one from LSU Baton Rouge. He also received two one-year fellowships to study first in Giessen and secondly in Heidelberg, Germany. Richard enjoyed travel and while in Germany was able to take short trips to several Western European countries. Other travels included trips to the Philippines, Japan and the Ukraine.

While in Eugene, Ore., he also attended the University of Oregon for several years and worked at a variety of jobs. His first love was music and he played his trombone in the local Symphony Orchestra and in the Eugene Symphonic Band.

Richard grew up in the Methodist Church, but during his life prided himself on the variety of Christian churches he attended. Richard was a kind and gentle person who loved his family and never lost his interest in and curiosity about our world.

A service to honor his life will be Saturday, Oct. 9, at 10 a.m. at Trinity Baptist Church, 527 Howard St., Natchitoches. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until service time.
