Darfus is Honorary Captain for Oct. 2 football game

NATCHITOCHES – Janet Martin Darfus of Natchitoches was Northwestern State University’s Honorary Captain at the Demons’ Oct. 2 football game, continuing the university’s tradition of honoring those who served or are serving in the U.S. military.

Hailing from Oak Ridge, Tennessee, Darfus received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Vanderbilt University.  She was commissioned through the Army Student Nurse Program in Army Health Services within the Army Nurse Corps.  Darfus was assigned to Fort Polk where she remained through her Army career assisting in medical/surgical and pediatric units.

Darfus began her career with Northwestern as an assistant professor of nursing in the College of Nursing and School of Allied Health.  She received a master’s degree from the University of South Alabama and NSU’s Excellence in Teaching Award for her work preparing nursing students for clinicals.  Although retired, she continues to teach as an adjunct professor.

Darfus is a member of the American Legion, the American Legion Auxiliary and the Natchitoches Parish Veterans and Memorial Park Committee, which seeks to remember and honor the veterans and active military of Natchitoches Parish.
