Lakeview varsity football fell to Avoyelles in a 56-14 defeat last Fri., Oct. 8. The Gators moved to 1-5 overall before their last three games of the season, all district 3-2A.  The #1 ranked Louisiana High School Athletic Association Class 2A Mustangs controlled the ball for most of the night, scoring 40 points in the first half alone compared to Lakeview’s 14 solely in the second quarter. Avoyelles then went on to seal the victory with 16 unanswered points in the third quarter.

One Mustang in particular, running back Decareyn Sampson, flew through the Gators and created open lanes for each of his multiple touchdowns. Lakeview’s defense didn’t measure up against Sampson, let alone any other passing attempts last week from Mustangs quarterback Nick Casugay.

Despite the efforts, Lakeview was unable to deteriorate the Mustang offense and failed to get past the Avoyelles defense.

The Gators aim for a bounceback return to the season as they face off against 2A opponent D’Arbonne Woods. Last year, the Gators claimed a 20-0 victory over the Timberwolves in their 2-5 overall shortened season in 2020.  The 3-2 Timberwolves are coming off a 42-8 victory over Beekman in week six. D’Arbonne Woods has only allowed 69 points through six games, while the Gators let up 202 points this season.

Lakeview is led by head coach Brandon Helms and quarterback Clifton Jones Jr. The Timberwolves are led by head coach Thomas Tharp and quarterback Nick Casugay.

The Gators will play week seven of their season against D’Arbonne Woods this Friday, Oct. 15, at the Swamp in Campti at 7 p.m.
