JT heard the game between Lakeview and Coushatta High School in Coushatta was stopped and over in the third quarter over what many are saying sounded to be gunshots. It happened on the home field side and the word from the school is it was not gunshots. They called it “a panic in the stands created by a group of spectators.” We may never know who started it or what happened because of how the flow and depth of information is often times soft-pedaled by various agencies. We hope that’s not the case because this is very serious. Because the home team school caused the cancellation of the game, JT wonders why they didn’t have to forfeit?

JT is getting a little concerned about reapportionment. He was told North Louisiana could take a beating in two areas. One is in the US House of Representatives. We currently have two districts (Mike Johnson in the 4th and Julie Letlow in the 5th) but because our population has shifted to South Louisiana, there is strong consideration for just one US House District for us that would cover all of North Louisiana from our borders with Arkansas, Mississippi and Texas down to just south of Alexandria. They would then take away our other Congressional district and re-work South Louisiana by adding another district down there.

A second concern of JT’s is with the loss of population in North Louisiana, Caddo/Bossier could lose one of their seats. At the open meeting on reapportionment at LSU-S last week, there was a push to keep all of their representation. If that happens, that means they are headed south for more population. Louie Bernard’s District 31 is already under the population benchmark and he needs more people in his district. If Caddo/Bossier reaches down into Louie’s district (DeSoto, Sabine, Natchitoches or Red River) he’s gonna have to get extra people from Grant and Rapides Parish. It would be nice if he could get some of those people from Sen. Jay Luneau, who represents part of Natchitoches already, thereby giving Louie all of Natchitoches Parish. JT hasn’t seen the preliminary maps but he’s pretty sure Louie has … and hopefully a plan is in place.
