As if the Gators weren’t any more hungry for the season to be theirs, this Gators Gumbo will have teams boiling these next few games if opponents are not careful. Lakeview won another hard-fought battle against the Lady Buccaneers of Haughton 46-35 on Dec. 4.
This put the Lady Gators at 9-0 for the season and the second spot in Class 2A Power Rankings. Last Saturday’s match was not a high scoring one, but a good enough affair to keep Lakeview ahead of most 2A opponents this season, racking a 9-0 overall record. Some can say it’s an incentive to prepare for Lakeview basketball, but for this season in particular, it’s hard to miss the excitement, especially with the Fishers leading the way.
Freshman point guard Janaiya Fisher led the way with 18 points, four assists and four steals. Behind her was senior Jameisha Fisher with 10 points, four rebounds and two steals. Also grabbing buckets and some change would be freshman shooting guard Timberlyn Washington with six points, five rebounds and three assists.
Lakeview’s younger roster proved to be lethal throughout these first nine games and attest to the Lady Gators’ foreshadowing moving forward. In freshman names like Washington and Fisher, the Lady Gators are a force to be reckoned with. The Lady Gators will play in Mansfield Friday, Dec. 10 at 6 p.m.
