The Saint Mary’s football season ended abruptly in the first round of the playoffs, but that did not take away from District accolades. The Tigers lost to the Cajuns of Metairie Park Country for the second year in a row.
The only regular season losses were to District rival Logansport and Abbeville. Logansport is the #1 seed in Class 1-A and will be playing in the dome this weekend for a chance at another State Championship. Abbeville was the #2 seed in class 3-A and lost in the quarterfinals to Union Parish who is in the State Championship game against Sterlington.
All that to say that this football team was a quality group and faced challenging competition though the season. Injuries accumulated as the season progressed and it took its toll in the end.
Four senior players will be lost to graduation, but a host of talent will return next year. Much of that talent was recognized whenthe list of All-District players was revealed.
Garnering first team 3-1A honors for Saint Mary’s on offense were WR-Ben Bienvenu, OL Gavin LaGrange, Athlete Graeme Fidelak and PK Payne Williams.
First team defense honors were bestowed on DL Drake Griffin, LB Ben Bienvenu, and Payne Williams and Graeme Fidelak as DB. Williams was also named first team punter.
Second team All-District members include, on offense, QB Adam Parker, OL Cole Fisher and WR Graeme Fidelak.
