Just Talkin’ for Dec. 23, 2021

JT doesn’t know who pays for all these studies that are done….or for that fact…why? He read one late last week that said there’s a 20 percent chance (1 in 5) that family gatherings will descend into drunken arguments over Christmas. That has to do with the fact that it’s pretty normal in Louisiana for most family gatherings to include alcoholic beverages on the menu.

In addition to alcohol lighting the match to an argument, the survey revealed that four out of five of us have a relative that really annoys them. You can add to that the thing that really triggers emotions…talking politics.

Political talk is cited as being the number one reason for families to argue over Christmas.  If it makes you feel any better, for once our state isn’t the worst. Delaware, Mississippi, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Rhode Island, Montana, Minnesota, Indiana, Colorado and Connecticut are way worse!

The solution to not being one of those families… either stay away from the alcohol OR that annoying relative. If you just can’t do either…try practicing moderation with both. Merry Christmas!

JT’s not a big believer in conspiracy theories…BUT! The more he thinks about it the more he thinks something’s up. He’s talking about the recent increases in postage costs and the reduction in timely delivery. JT used to mail his payments seven days in advance of the due date….now he allows for 10 to 14 days for them to be delivered. JT thinks the Post Office might be in cahoots with some of the major companies…like utilities and services. (Most of them closed their local offices during the pandemic so you had to mail in your payment rather than just drop it off at their local offices.)

That alone increased the Post Office revenue because of the new postage sales. So, JT figures in return the Post Office agreed to lengthen their delivery time so that the companies…like Sudden Link for example… could charge you a late fee when the slowed down postal service didn’t deliver your payment on time. The truth be known, JT thinks the companies know they are not going to get your payment on time so they have programmed their computers to automatically charge a late fee. How are you going to know if it was there on time or not?

JT got a good laugh over coffee this week when someone explained they had witnessed their first Christmas miracle of the holiday season. He was talking about the Saints defeat of Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday night. (In a shutout no less.) It was definitely unexpected and while JT doesn’t think it really qualifies for a miracle…it sure was a great Christmas week start.
