Charles “Chase” Snyder, PharmD, of Natchitoches, was presented with the Hospital Pharmacist of the Year Award. Snyder received his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Louisiana at Monroe in 2010. After graduation, he completed a PGY1 pharmacy practice residency in Baton Rouge at the Earl K. Long Medical Center, an LSU Health Sciences Medical Center. There, he completed rotations in primary care, infectious disease, intensive care, internal medicine and palliative care in addition to his duties as a hospital clinical pharmacist.
He also took part in a weekly diabetes clinic, which inspired him to conduct training for all hospital nursing staff on the treatment of hypoglycemic events. This led to improved treatment of hypoglycemic events during hospital stays. He received the Louisiana Society of Health-Systems Pharmacists Poster award in the administrative category for this project.
In 2011, Chase moved to Natchitoches with his wife to work at Causey’s Pharmacy.
There, he worked not only as a staff retail pharmacist, but also in the areas of IV therapy, immunizations, long-term care and compounding. He worked with a local counseling center in conjunction with the Jansen Connect program to offer a long-term medication administration solution for behavioral health patients. He currently is a pharmacist for Wal-Mart Pharmacy. He opened a new Wal-Mart Neighborhood Market store in Colfax as the acting pharmacist-in-charge.
The grand opening in May exceeded many of Wal-Mart’s goals and the pharmacy received a “green light” from the Health and Wellness Regional Director during a recent visit. Snyder has been a member of LPA since starting pharmacy school in 2006, and currently serves on the Peer Review Committee.
He is also a member of the Natchitoches Jaycees where he served as secretary for three years. Jaycees is locally known for its high level of community service and charitable giving.
Snyder lives in Natchitoches with his wife, Leah, and daughter, Jolee, and are members of Westside Baptist Church.
The Louisiana Pharmacists Association held its Virtual 139th Annual Convention Nov. 13.
