As the City of Lights switches to the beginning of the school year and the end of holiday season, basketball will start to wind down around February and leave room for baseball, softball and more. Starting the new year right has been successful for Lakeview’s girls basketball and Natchitoches Central’s boys and girls teams.
The Lady Gators secured a 57-53 win over Wossman Jan. 4, putting their record at 13-1. A great start, thanks to freshman players Janaiya Fisher and Timberlyn Washington, and help from senior players Shari Smith and Jameisha Fisher. Lakeview Lady Gators are at No. 2 in Louisiana High School Athletic Association’s Class 2A power rankings.

North of Campti, both Chiefs squads punched in wins to kick off district play. No. 31 Lady Chiefs chalked up their first win of the new year as well, beating No. 14 Airline 64-59. On the boys side, No. 9 NCHS also took a hard-fought 46-45 win over the Vikings.
