Police investigate shooting incidents in first week of 2022

Natchitoches Police Department officers were dispatched Dec. 30 around 9:54 p.m. to the 100 block of South Williams Avenue in reference to a group of people saying someone shot at them while in the parking lot of Basic Health and Fitness. Officers located the group who said that they were popping fireworks in the parking lot when they heard what sounded like two bullets ricocheting. The group then noticed an individual standing near a vehicle in the parking lot, and after a brief argument, heard the same sound as the suspect was fleeing the area.

As a result of their investigation officers located Kyle Tanner, w/m, 48, of Natchitoches who was placed under arrest without incident. Tanner is charged with four counts of Attempted First Degree Murder, Disturbing the Peace by Public Intoxication and Obstruction of Justice.

In a separate incident, Natchitoches Police Department was notified by Natchitoches Regional Medical Center Jan. 2 around 7:44 p.m. that an individual arrived at the hospital with a single gunshot wound to the head. Officers learned the victim was shot near the Jackson Square Cemetery close to the J.W. Thomas Apartments.
The victim was later released from the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The Natchitoches Police Department is investigating the second shooting of 2022 that took place Monday, Jan. 3 around 10:11 p.m. on Bossier Street.
Officers responded to the intersection of Bossier and Caspari Streets in reference to gunshots in the area. They located a vehicle that had been shot several times and a victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds near the intersection of Lower Fifth Street and Scott Loop.
The victim was transported to Natchitoches Regional Medical Center and later to a hospital in Rapides Parish for further treatment.
