Free Craft 1 Construction classes offered at Ben D. Johnson Education Center


Southern University of Louisiana-Career Development will offer a Core Craft 1 Construction class Jan. 10-Feb. 17 at the Ben D. Johnson Education Center.
This is the first requirement by NCCER (National Craft and Assessment & Certification Program) to begin a career in vocational training in various trades. (i.e.  construction, electrical, welding, plumbing, etc). Upon completion, the candidates will be certified by NCCER and eligible to work anywhere in the United States.

The NCCER Core training course is a prerequisite to all other NCCER Level 1 craft curriculum in construction and industrial occupations such as carpentry, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, welding, drywall and construction craft laborer. The NCCER standardized curricula introduces basic skills for obtaining and retaining industrial employment, including an introduction to hand tools, power tools, construction drawings, basic communication skills, basic safety and basic employability skills. This certification-training course provides the foundational skills needed to continue entry-level education in any skilled-craft.

The course is open enrollment to all ages. Afternoon instruction will be offered accommodate work schedules. The course is free to all who enroll and equipment is provided at no cost.
