Another successful night for Lakeview girls basketball and the Class 2A No. 2 ranked Lady Gators find themselves undefeated in the first two games of the new year. LHS wins in a blowout 71-35 on Jan. 6 over Class C opponent Pleasant Hill, currently sporting the No. 11 seed.

The Lady Gators didn’t leave much room for error; knocking down perimeter shots, getting aggressive inside the paint and not letting off the gas, proving their excellence on the court. Their only competition now is to find a way to throw No. 1 ranked Amite off the top of the state leaderboard and claim No. 1.
LHS’ only loss was to dominant 5A Airline, No. 14 in the latest power rankings. A close 66-74 defeat against the Lady Vikings only put a spark in their 14-1 record this season.
But District 3-2A is looking like Lakeview’s district to lose; Many’s four losses after five recent games can stretch for the worse. Winnfield’ five wins after six recent games could be a good fight against the Lady Gators later on.
Red River, losing four of five recent games, will be Lakeview’s first district opponent on Jan. 18. For the Lady Gators, district shouldn’t surprise anyone; this will be another stepping stone into Marsh Madness at the end of the season.
The next game against Homer will play Jan. 11 at 6 p.m. Homer’s 7-6 record propelled them to No. 7 in Class 1A. Last year’s 53-24 loss against Lakeview will be tested as Lakeview continues to strive for a nearly perfect season.
