On Monday, Jan. 17, the Ben D. Johnson Educational Center will have a Day Of Service in celebration of MLK Day. They will unveil the design for the first full color, community-based mural in the City of Natchitoches. The day will consist of preparing the mural site for paint and cleaning up the area surrounding the Legacy Garden where the mural will be located. Edgar Campos, local artist and graduate of NSU’s Art Department, is leading the project, which is inspired by agriculture and the Natchitoches community.
During the event, food, music, entertainment and activities for young children will be provided. Although no actual painting will take place during this day, individuals will be able to sign up to participate in future mural painting days.
The event will be from 2-4 p.m. If unable to join the day of the event, another way to contribute is via donation. Get more information about the project at https://www.bdjcenter.org/news-events or contact the staff at 318-460-7460.
