The Northwestern State University Saxophone Studio will hold its annual Sax Fest on Saturday, Feb. 19 in Magale Recital Hall beginning at noon.Guest artist Derek Brown will hold a master class and extended technique clinic and will discuss the music business. NSU Professor of Saxophone Paul J. Forsyth will hold a master class for high school students.
At 6 p.m., Brown will be featured in a concert which will include the NSU Jazz Orchestra and NSU Saxophone Choir.

Genealogy Sleuthing with Our Mammy’s, 2-3:30 p.m., Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame and Northwest Louisiana History Museum. Gaynell Brady, founder/educator of Our Mammy’s, shares the stories of African Americans in Louisiana through the lens of her ancestors. The interactive program will introduce children to family history. Participants will develop a portion of their family tree, look for clues and uncover evidence from artifacts. This educational program is geared for families and children ages six and older and accompanied by an adult. Free.

The Campti Community Development Center (CCDC) is organizing its first parade and welcomes parade participants and donations of throws. Parade participants will line up at 2846 Hwy 71 at 12:30 p.m. (Old Sambo’s). The parade will start at 1 p.m. and the route will continue onto Lake, Mill and Edenborne Street before ending at the CCDC office at 121 A Raphiel St. No four wheelers are allowed, but side by sides and horses are welcome. All Natchitoches Parish Schools with fifth grade enrollment will host a Community Programs Day at the individual schools Wednesday, March 9 during school hours. The Natchitoches Parish School Board set this day aside so organizations, clubs or programs have an opportunity to promote student membership and/or make available literature.
During this day, students will have an opportunity to visit tables for information that sparks their interest. Any group interested in participating should contact Dr. Grant Eloi or Kanika Revels at 318-352-2358. Deadline to sign up is Feb. 28.

The Natchitoches Soil & Water Conservation Tree and Shrub Sale will be March 9-11 from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. on the vacant lot at the corner of St. Clair and Williams Avenues in Natchitoches.
There will be a variety of bare root and potted trees and shrubs, including River Birch, Red Maple, Live Oak, Sawtooth Oak, Strawberry Bush, Chinquapin, Chinese Chestnut, White, and Pink Dogwood, Lemon, Avocado, Pomegranate, Paw-Paw, Crabapple and many others.
The tree sale is the NSWCD’s largest fund-raiser of the year. All proceeds benefit the community through sponsoring area projects including conservation essay, soil and water stewardship week, conservation education programs, forestry awareness and feral hog control.
